ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COMMITTEE

In January 2002, then Mayor Ben Maliszewski initiated the formation of a citizen’s committee to pursue the beautification and development of landscaping in and around the Village of Glen Carbon. The first meeting of the full committee was held in March 2002.

The committee is made up of 8 citizen volunteer members. One member of the Village Board of Trustees, Margaret Moggio, acts as liaison between the committee and the village board. For further information on the committee, please contact Village Trustee Jorja Dickemann.

PURPOSE

The volunteer group will strive to maintain and improve an attractive and inviting environment for the benefit of the local residents and visitors.

Goals to achieve the committee’s objective include:

Beautification of selected sites throughout the Village.
Preservation of our Southwest Illinois landscape resources.
A long range beautification plan.
Create public awareness of natural habitat and beautification programs.
Implement programs to promote participation in neighborhood and individual property beautification efforts.
Coordinate efforts with community organizations, schools, business groups, social organizations and government.
Recruit volunteers and encourage participation in the beautification programs.
