Glen Carbon Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Does the Village have a Brush Collection Program? The curbside brush collection service is offered to residents the first Tuesday of every month from May through October to pick up tree branches which naturally fall from trees. Pickups are scheduled the first Tuesday of each month. Residents are asked to place the brush at curbside with cut end towards the street and neatly stacked. The maximum size accepted is 8 inches diameter. Village crews do not pick up yard waste such as lawn clippings. All limbs and branches are recycled into mulch by means of a brush chipper. The mulch is stock piled. Residents are asked to call 288-2662 for pick up service.

  3. I understand that the Village provides a Rental Maintenance Program. What does this program entail and is it mandatory? The Village Board adopted a Glen Carbon Rental Maintenance Program in the Fall of 1994 to protect the public health, safety and welfare in all existing residential rental properties within the Village. It also sets and enforces the minimum standards for light, space, heating, sanitation, and for safety from fire and other hazards. Because these minimum standards are strictly enforced, Village residents can be assured that rental properties will not be allowed to deteriorate into substandard housing that would lower property values for homeowners and owners of rental property in surrounding areas. The program keeps occupancy limits in check by limiting the number of people who can occupy a unit. The program is administered by the Glen Carbon Building & Zoning Department. It requires that owners of residential rental property situated within corporate limits of the Village to register their property with the Village Clerk's office. Before tenants can occupy any unit, the owners must request an inspection and pay a $25 fee. If the unit meets inspection criteria an Occupancy Permit will be issued. The rental property can then be occupied and it will not require another inspection until (A) after one year and the tenant moves, (B) after five years if the unit remains occupied by the same tenant.
